Athletic Director

The West Holmes Local School District is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Athletic Director to manage, advance, and oversee the effective delivery of our interscholastic athletic and academic program. This leadership role is vital in fostering a positive culture that emphasizes academic success, community engagement, and the continuous improvement of our student-athletes and coaching staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Administrative License preferred, but not required.
  • Interscholastic Athletic Department leadership skills substantiated by training and relevant work experience.
  • Ability to influence the district’s economic and cultural environment.
  • Pupil Activity Supervisor Permit may be required.
  • Adhere to the Professional Code of Conduct for Ohio Educators.
  • Articulates clear expectations and sustainable implementation strategy.
  • Availability to work long days and irregular hours on a non-traditional schedule.
  • Communicate effectively to administration, coaches and community.
  • Complies with drug free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
  • Embody high ethical standards and integrity.
  • Maintain a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Requires high visibility at both High School and Middle School Activities.
  • Ability to incorporate transportation into coverage when drivers are unavailable, possibility of getting a van and/or bus license.

Key Expectations:

  • Attend all league meetings.
  • Develop and articulate a clear educational philosophy and a sustainable implementation strategy for the athletic department.
  • Integrate athletic goals into the broader district-wide strategic plan.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive leadership style while providing mentorship for new and existing coaches.
  • Manage the board-approved budget and identify areas for financial improvement.
    Coordinate scheduling for efficient facility use and oversee an ongoing maintenance program for buildings and equipment.
  • Direct coaching staff selection, conduct regular performance evaluations (including practice check-ins), and provide professional development opportunities.
  • Verify scholastic eligibility and ensure all coaches are properly qualified.
  • Serve as a liaison to the athletic boosters’ association and maintain open communication with all stakeholders.
  • Publicize activities through social media and local media to increase coverage and showcase student achievements.
  • Seek innovative fundraising opportunities and develop partnerships with local businesses.
  • Promote academic success as a priority by linking participation with academic achievement benchmarks.
  • Implement mentorship programs and establish clear guidelines for student-athlete conduct and discipline.
  • Direct coaching/staff selection and orientation.  Verify that all coaches are properly qualified, review policies and procedures, review pre-post season expectations, evaluate coaches and provide support for improvement.
  • Help coaches deal with discipline issues.
  • Uphold athletic program policies, develop/review athletic handbooks.
  • Coordinates scheduling to ensure the efficient use of athletic facilities.
  • Develops/distributes a contest/event calendar, publicizing activities, and prepares game programs.
  • Develops/implements a ticket sales policy. Oversees pre-game ticket sales.
  • Processes payment vouchers for game officials and athletic workers.
  • Prepares game reports and attendance records.
  • Ensures that receipt/expense records are suitable for audit.
  • Prepares/makes bank deposits. Submits records to the treasurer’s office.  Organizes/participates in athletic recognition programs.
  • Verifies that participants have fulfilled all requirements for letters, awards and/or certificates.
  • Oversees an ongoing maintenance program to protect and preserve program resources (e.g. buildings, grounds, equipment, etc.).
  • Administers community use of athletic facilities.

Three (3) Bus Drivers

Objective:

  • Operates a school bus or van to provide authorized transportation services.

Minimum Qualifications:        

  • High school diploma. Successful completion of state pre-service bus driver training program.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements.
  • Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions and passenger distractions.
  • Completion of the state pre-service school bus driver training program and on-going participation in training necessary to maintain required license and endorsements.
  • Complies with all pupil transportation operation and safety rules found in Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility. Reacts productively to interruptions/changing conditions.
  • Demonstrates maturity. Interacts comfortably/confidently with the public.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Meets all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district’s insurance carrier.
  • Physical ability to safely lift and manage preschoolers and students with disabilities.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol test results. Must pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment and be fingerprinted every five (5) years.

Substitute Custodians (Classified)

Objective:

  • Performs general custodial duties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma. Work skills substantiated by training and/or relevant work experience.
  • An acceptable score on a pre-employment skill test may be required.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work that includes lifting/moving heavy items.
  • Collects, records, and maintains data accurately. Applies basic mathematical concepts correctly.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility. Reacts productively to interruptions/changing conditions.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Interacts comfortably/confidently with the public.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Ability to comply with board policy regarding the Integrated Pest Management Program.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol test results. Must pass a criminal
    background investigation prior to employment and be fingerprinted every five (5) years.
