Custodian/Groundskeeper - District

Duties:    

  • High school diploma. Work skills substantiated by training and/or relevant work experience.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work that includes lifting/moving heavy items up to 50 lbs.
  • Performs custodial duties to protect and preserve buildings, equipment and furnishings.
  • Works effectively with limited supervision. Performs tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Checks daily schedule to find out if a school activity requires preparation or clean up.
  • Anticipates and replenishes consumable supplies to avoid work schedule interruptions.
  • Performs assigned custodial duties: Cleans assigned areas. Dry mops/washes floors. Cleans furniture, fixtures, walls and windows. Provides regular/orderly removal of trash. Moves/arranges furnishings, supplies and equipment as directed. Cleans lockers. Replaces light bulbs. Sanitizes and re-supplies toilet rooms. Cleans glass, display cases, partitions, light fixtures, etc. Polishes hardware (e.g., door handles, push/kick plates, handrails, drinking fountains, etc.). Vacuums/power cleans carpets and upholstered furnishings. Spot cleans stains. Cleans floor mats/runners.
  • Ability to operate/maintain grounds keeping equipment and support district maintenance activities.
  • Collects, records, and maintains data accurately. Applies basic mathematical concepts correctly.
  • Communicates effectively. Interprets information accurately and initiates effective responses.
  • Provides technical expertise/manual skill in the preservation/care of landscaped areas.
  • Works effectively with limited supervision. Performs tasks efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • Helps administrators/supervisors develop short/long-range grounds keeping recommendations.
  • Avoids disrupting instructional/recreational activities except during emergencies.
  • Performs minor repairs that do not disrupt the routine work schedule. Ensure compliance with building codes and ADA accessibility standards.
  • Performs preventive maintenance activities (e.g., lubricates moving parts, replaces filters, cleans equipment, adjusts/replaces belts, changes oil, prepares items for storage, etc.).
  • Performs grounds keeping duties (e.g., mows grass, fertilizes, seeds, maintains trees/gardens, etc.).
  • Maintains a pesticide log. Anticipates weather conditions to avoid delays.
  • Maintains playground/recreation areas and practice fields as directed. Prepares athletic fields according to the conference/league and state athletic association rules and regulations.

Middle School Guidance Counselor

Qualifications:    

Valid school counselor license/certificate.

 

Duties:    

Provides guidance/counseling services. Plans/implements program improvements.

Communicates program objectives/performance expectations to students/parents.

Keeps current with state standards/guidelines. Collaborates with staff, students, families and thecommunity to delineate short/long-range guidance program needs/opportunities.

Allots time for individual/group counseling. Supports the development of curriculum that help students acquire/improve personal skills (e.g., accountability, decision-making, interpersonal communication, problem solving, responsible behavior, self-confidence, etc.).

Actively collaborates with staff to share effective intervention strategies and resources.

Helps identify/resolve problems that impede student participation in appropriate learning activities.

Assists with the multi-factored evaluation (MFE) process. Meets mandated paperwork time lines.

Helps ensure that assessment instruments/procedures support non-biased planning activities.

Investigates student concerns (e.g., abuse/neglect, attendance, discrimination, domestic violence, emotional problems, poverty, pregnancy/parenting, self-esteem, substance abuse, etc.).

Implements protocols to safeguard student information shared with staff and/or referral sources.

Plans/implements student intervention strategies that produce tangible evidence-based benefits within specified time-frames. Monitors intervention efficacy to improve outcomes.

Facilitates opportunities for all students to participate in an inclusive educational environment.

Advocates for students. Observes student demeanor. Investigates/reports atypical behavior.

Helps students better understand themselves, make appropriate choices and grow academically.

Promotes cultural awareness, self-reliance, problem-solving, critical-thinking and creativity skills.

Facilitates student learning activities that encourage teamwork and positive peer relationships.

Maintains career-focused resource materials. Helps students understand the interrelationship of academic courses and career objectives. Promotes a balanced perspective of work and family life.

Helps staff with pupil management. Prepares conduct reports/discipline recommendations.

Serves as a resource for drug/harassment/violence prevention and related school safety activities.

Develops strategies to improve performance and increase graduation rates for at-risk students.

Initiates student/family referrals to community services (e.g., legal, health, social services, etc.). Serves as a district contact person for public agencies and an intermediary for parents/staff.

 

Information:  

Salary will be based on experience.

184 work days per year.

Bus Mechanic

Overview:
West Holmes Local School is looking for a Bus Mechanic.  As a Bus Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining diesel/gas engines and vehicles. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and benefits.

Keeps the Head Mechanic/Supervisor informed about maintenance concerns and emerging issues. Provided technical expertise and manual skills in inspecting, servicing, and repairing all vehicles owned and operated by the school district.

 Qualifications:

  • Must have a class B CDL with school bus and passenger endorsement or willing to obtain
  • Completion of the Ohio Pre-Service School Bus Driver Training Program
  • Satisfactory pre-employment drug test and physical
  • Fingerprinting (FBI and CBI)
  • Submit to random drug testing
  • Three years’ experience a plus but not required

 Duties:        

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks such as oil changes, filter replacements, and lubrication
  • Diagnose and repair diesel/gas engines, including fuel systems, electrical systems, and emissions control systems
  • Inspect and test vehicles to identify any issues or malfunctions
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to perform repairs
  • Conduct automotive diagnostics to identify problems and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Repair or replace faulty parts and components, such as brakes, transmissions, and suspension systems
  • Weld and fabricate parts as needed – Keep accurate records of all repairs and maintenance performed Skills
  • Strong knowledge of diesel/gas engines and vehicle maintenance
  • Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Familiarity with electrical systems and hydraulics
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot automotive issues effectively
  • Experience in welding and fabrication is a plus
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently
  • Ability to operate with minimal supervision and to exercise independent judgment and discretion in completing assignments
  • Keeps the Head Mechanic/Supervisor informed about maintenance concerns and emerging issues. Provided technical expertise and manual skills in inspecting, servicing, and repairing all vehicles owned and operated by the school district

Three (3) Bus Drivers

Objective:

  • Operates a school bus or van to provide authorized transportation services.

Minimum Qualifications:        

  • High school diploma. Successful completion of state pre-service bus driver training program.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) with school bus and passenger endorsements.
  • Ability to cope with stressful traffic, weather conditions and passenger distractions.
  • Completion of the state pre-service school bus driver training program and on-going participation in training necessary to maintain required license and endorsements.
  • Complies with all pupil transportation operation and safety rules found in Ohio Administrative Code.
  • Complies with drug-free workplace rules, board policies and administrative guidelines/procedures.
  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility. Reacts productively to interruptions/changing conditions.
  • Demonstrates maturity. Interacts comfortably/confidently with the public.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Meets all prerequisite and ongoing qualifications to be covered by the district’s insurance carrier.
  • Physical ability to safely lift and manage preschoolers and students with disabilities.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol test results. Must pass a criminal background investigation prior to employment and be fingerprinted every five (5) years.

  • Demonstrates dependability/flexibility. Reacts productively to interruptions/changing conditions.
  • Embodies high ethical standards and integrity. Accepts responsibility for decisions and conduct.
  • Interacts comfortably/confidently with the public.
  • Maintains a record free of criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment.
  • Ability to comply with board policy regarding the Integrated Pest Management Program.
  • Satisfactory pre-employment and ongoing random drug/alcohol test results. Must pass a criminal
    background investigation prior to employment and be fingerprinted every five (5) years.
